Just started this book tonight. Have been waiting until I finished my own novel to avoid the possibility of being influenced by it.

The story is set in 1919 where Niska, an Oji-Cree medicine woman, paddles on a three day trip to meet her nephew Xavier who is returning from the great war. The story is told in first person both through thye narration of Niska and Xavier as they recount the events that have brought them to this point in time.

Boyden has a way with words and thus far I am enjoying it a great deal.

This book has received critical acclaim and was an international bestseller.
