In my not-humble-at-all opinion the best writer of speculative fiction working today, on both the conceptual and technical level. Link has managed to take the incredible legacy of Lieber, LeGuin, Zelazny, Delany, Lafferty and Davidson, make it her own and transform it into new-found glory.

The woman uses ambiguity like a rapier, and irony as a stilleto. Stories that will make you laugh and cry and haunt your thoughts, like scary dreams remembered on a warm evening. I am in awe. Stunning.

The writing is superior but those covers are early-40s cheesy. The top one looks like my original copy of Chandler's Playback. Imnsho

Haha. Intentionally, I think. The bottom cover is based on a DaVinci painting. I like the top cover, since it illustrates the tone and mood of the story "The Girl Detective" so well.

Likely so. I prefer A. Reynolds but taste is relative. Good stuff.

Have you read "Lull", man? A time travel/alien invasion saga that twists both devices around to speak on loneliness and the inability to get over a failed relationship. Brilliant, funny, sad, and just beautifully written. One of those stories that truly makes mainstream fiction seem cold, simple and boring. Reminds me why I love what I love, and why.

Malone, from that one check out "Flying Lessons" and "Travels With the Snow Queen", which are probably the two best modernized and retold fairy tales/mythology I've ever read.

The opening of "Flying Lessons"

Listen, because I'm only going to do this once. You'll have to get there by way of London. Take the overnight train from Waverly. Sit in the last car. Speak to no one. Don't fall asleep.

When you arrive at Kings Cross, go down into the Underground. Get on the Northern line. Sit in the last car. Speak to no one. Don't fall asleep.

The Northern line stops at Angel, at London Bridge, at Elephant and Castle, Tooting Broadway. The last marked station is Morden: stay in your seat. Other passengers will remain with you in the car. Speak to no one.

These are some of the unlisted stations you will pass: Howling Green. Duke's Pit. Sparrowkill. Stay in your seat. Don't fall asleep.

If you look around the car, you may notice that the other passengers have started to glow. The bulbs on the car dim as the passengers give off more and more light. If you look down you may find that you yourself are casting light into the dark car.

The final stop is Bonehouse.
