    Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell

Has anyone by chance read 'Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell'? It's a bit of a brick, but I'm really excited to dig into it and see what it's all about. A couple of my friends recommended it to me, and after finding it as a bargain book on B&N's website, I ordered a copy, and now am waiting eagerly for it to arrive on my doorstep. Hopefully, it will be just as good as everyone has told me it is.

I haven't read but about one hundred or so pages of it, but it is very interesting. I wish I could tell you more about it, but my memory's fuzzy.

I've read it. It's very unusual.

The prose style is consciously imitative of Jane Austen, while the setting is reminiscent of Randall Garrett's "Too Many Magicians" et al, in other words, a crossover between high fantasy and the British Empire during Napoleonic times. It's a very unusual combination and works rather well.

I'll be looking out for other work by Susanna Clark, I'm quite the fan.
I can love my fellow man, but I'm damned if I'll love yours.
    Just because I don't care, doesn't mean I don't understand.
