Step into the ocean...

My goal is to write more, become published, and one day write professionally. Journalism and short fiction are my target fields, though I have some rhyme and verse that I associate with my other hobby, acoustic guitar.

This blog serves the purpose of a 'writer's journal.' I will post about my steps to achieve this goal, my thoughts on the process, and how my writing is developing as I take on this challenge. I will post excerpts of my writing, hopefully many, as I hope to make real progress.

  1. Why We Need Subjectivity In Journalism...

I wrote this tonight, but the ideas been in my head for a while. I dig Hunter S. Thompson. Too tired to form complete thoughts, so here's the meat:

Why We Need Subjectivity In Journalism

In his WordPress blog, Mike Gene, author of The Design Matrix, defines 'objective knowledge' as "unbiased knowledge about the world around us", whereas 'subjective knowledge' "exists in the mind and pertains to the one who holds the knowledge." But biased is such ...

  2. Omg milestone so joy, cry tears...

by , 06-26-2012 at 08:49 PM (Step into the ocean...)
I won the LM contest, guys T.T I'm so... shocked, and happy. And so happy. I got an award The LM Pulitzer award. This is a milestone all it's own. I am but an egg... I'm not worthy... I will do better in the future so that I deserve this. I am overwhelmed with pride, yet I know I am not good enough. Not yet. I will keep working on things, but harder. More. I'll crank out the words and pages. I'll sharpen my grammar and punctuation 'til it can cut diamonds and laser beams! Hell yeah, this feels ...
  3. Here's how far I've come...

by , 06-23-2012 at 12:46 AM (Step into the ocean...)
Well, I've got a steady trickle of pennies coming in through the writing websites I've joined, which are linked below. All together, it's about $1.35--a very modest start. One of my poems has been featured on Helium's main page (surprising, as the poem must have taken all of 3 minutes to write.) Things are moving slowly, but I'm very proud to say that I've come this far. Check out my writing on the sites (links below!) A lot of it I can't post here because I've sold the rights to Helium for a full ...

  4. My poem was featured on Helium!...

by , 06-14-2012 at 09:54 PM (Step into the ocean...)
So, last night I was having a couple drinks with my friends, but around 2AM they all filed out. Me, being a night owl, got online and started fooling around on my usual websites, doing my thing on Facebook and checking all of the writing websites I frequent (this included.)

On Helium.com I decided to give their 'suggested poetry topics' a try. I banged out three pretty quickly. I didn't intend to do anything miraculous, I just wanted to put a couple up and see what it got me. And ...

  5. Dead Marionette entry (unshortened version)...

by , 06-09-2012 at 07:30 AM (Step into the ocean...)
Well, I've decided to give it a try. I'm entering the Literary Maneuvers -- Fiction Competition thing. My entry is below, but it's wayyy too long right now. Well, only about 150 words too long, but that's a lot when it comes to a story as short as this. Anyway, here is the full version:

    June 27th, 1994, late evening

Oh, diary, the ugliest thing happened to me just now.

The city is a beautiful and bustling throng of entertainment, but it can be
