  1. A Bowl of Jolly Ranchers and Condoms

    by , 04-28-2012 at 04:51 AM
So today I went to Social and Health Services to do some paperwork when, after I had my appointment with a caseworker, I walked past a bowl full of contraceptives. And it was weird because I saw a disturbingly striking similarity between the bowl of condoms and the bowl of jolly ranchers at the front desk. What made the situation pretty awkward was that my mother was there with me, standing next to our case worker as he made copies of our denial letters.

Admittedly, I looked at the ...

  2. Pick a word, write 250+ words: Senescent...

by , 04-25-2012 at 07:41 AM (Step into the ocean...)
Okay, I meant to only type a little over 250 words, but when I finally stopped I had exactly 1111 words. Good spot to end at. So without further adieu, here is the second installment of the "Pick A Word" exercise. This is the first time I've tried my hand at some scary stuff, so, here it is:

    Senescent
se·nes·cent [sə néss'nt] adj - aging: approaching an advanced age

  3. The Dark InSpectre, Episode 47

    by , 04-23-2012 at 04:35 PM

  4. Pick a word, write 250+ words: Vestigial...

by , 04-23-2012 at 05:38 AM (Step into the ocean...)
This is the first of many. It is my own writing exercise. If it's not already obvious, I picked a word at random and wrote a paragraph involving the word. From there I expanded it to be 250+ words. I will also post this in the forums for critique and for the public to enjoy (seeing as this blog is currently viewed only by me.) So here it is:

    Vestigial

I walked along the path through the park. Many of the trees had fallen, some of which now obstructed the way. The larger ...

  5. The gained knowledge from 12 articles on writing articles/freelance journalism...

by , 04-23-2012 at 04:21 AM (Step into the ocean...)
As the title states, I just finished reading a dozen (or more, it was an estimate) articles on the how-to's of journalism. The two most repeated gems of advice:

    -Read, read, read.
    -Write, write, write.

I do read, more often lately. I am currently reading Gonzo: The Life Of Hunter S. Thompson. After that I have some psychology or maybe philosophy books. I should pick up the pace.

I have to start writing more. It's a necessity. I'm working on that. ...
