In a guest chat with author Danny Fahey last night he thanked Art and Sole Publishing for their assistance in his journey. Danny’s latest book, “The Tree Singer“, is now available from Dragonfall Press.
There’s satisfaction in knowing that Art and Sole have helped Danny’s career. His compliment got me thinking about the original vision, how it’s changed and where it’s at now.
Initially there was a group of artists, writers and musicians who came together to collaborate on projects. We made videos, put on exhibitions, produced concerts and stage shows. The experience was a creative melting post and Art and Sole Publishing grew out of that. The aim at first was to produce works by the group but when we opened an internet forum we started adding the works of talented forum members.
It occurred to us that we could use the internet to offer a real alternative to the mainstream publishers but as many others got the same idea, many of them unscrupulous, those waters became muddied. For that reason we changed our aim to one of gaining greater exposure for our writers and artists rather than regarding publishing as an end in itself. To help this process we decided that all artists and writers would retain all rights to their works. There would be no barrier to them being picked up by the mainstream. This means that every title that disappears from our list is a success story.
