  1. Ugh... Why Cant It Be E-Z???

    Balance, balance, balance...

Have to rethink the power-system and have a real good idea on what it is and what it can do at the heights of it's potential, all things considered.

So frustrating. Even the most minute abilities- with a little imagination and strategy- can be potentially devastating because of their nature. It all goes back to that one thought I had... Imagine what a person who could only make a small flame do...

A whole freaking lot of damage, ...

  2. Before You Despair...

I was looking through a magazine and I noticed how many tall mother fu-, I mean tall gentlemen there were, and I was thinking to myself, "Man, being tall just gives it to you."

Not long after, I asked myself "Would you like to be taller if you could?"

    My honest answer... No.

It's not that I still don't get a little pang of envy at seeing a tall guy strut, it's just that I realized a while ago that even though I might not be this, not having ...

  3. Civilization Is Amazing...

So...I decided to just take a small glimpse at the engineering and layout of a modern city as a sort of reference for my own plagiarist cities.

Yikes. I have a consuming respect for engineers, now. It's like looking at layers and layers of individual systems piled together and made to run in symbiotic fashion. It's like a mechanical organism that has mechanical and biological components.

It's not only astounding, it actually made me ask the question when looking at it... ...

  4. Zombies Need A Rework

Zombies aren't scary... I'm sorry. The only ones that really come close are the ones from the 28 Days Later series because they actually run at you and that is scary seeing as though their not likely to lose breath and are fueled only by rage and hunger.

Three ways to make them scary?

    1) FAST zombies works pretty well.

    2) The Contagion Factor

Normally, a zombie has to get under your skin or mix fluids with you for you to become infected. However, ...

  5. Cost

There's something that's so elemental to the condition of life that it permeates all fields, all studies, all dimensions of it. It is present throughout all times and seems to be as constant as a universal law. And that is cost

If you are seeking balance, than cost is something you are intimately familiar with. Cost appears in any consideration of anything because to do a thing is to exact a cost. The problem is that sometimes, the costs are vague and we commit to things not knowing...and ...

  6. Hail Vader

This going to be quick, but...

I saw the Rogue One movie after the huge disappointment of VII, and I found it a pretty good movie. It was cheesy toward the end with some parts, but I thought it was handled well. Darth Vader had some moments in it and, to me, the initial showings of Darth Vader felt awkward and cringe-worthy, but the final scene with him was jaw-dropping.

    1. For me, in a movie that pretty much void of actual Jedi, it showed just how devastating a force ...

Ok, so Iíve been doing this for some years now and I am in no way to be considered a professional. As such, you might want to turn away now and seek out the advice of the GRRMís of the world. However, I feel like Iíve been doing this for so long and Iíve gotten so good at it that Iím not going to give people advice, I just express how I went about it and maybe people will find inspiration from what they seeÖ

  8. The Religion of Science

From the outset, I understand what the scientific method is...

But, the scientific method and science are two different things and neither are foolproof. The method is simply the accepted method by which one goes about proving a thing to be true. Science is the study and accumulation of truths as we perceive them to be true. In other words, what science says to be true has not been validated by the universal avatar of truth. It is simply something that has been decided upon by a congregation ...

Philosophy of Fiction Ė The Riddle of Steel (Conan the Barbarian)

If I looked back, what is one of the best movies I have ever seen and why...?

To give you a reference, I LOVE philosophy in the sense of deep, thought-provoking things said, done, implied, or shown. For instance, in the movie, The Watchmen, in the final scene between Ozymandias and Dr. Manhattan, Dr. Manhattan gives what, to me, is one of the coolest lines to be spoken, EVER...

    .
I think I only have one entry so far and while I enjoy simply writing from the hip, so to speak, when re-reading it I felt that I should have taken a more in-depth effort into it...or else mar the integrity of all things philosophical.

And so, I think I'll try to make a post on this every two weeks because it actually takes a fair amount of research and organizing to get a good, well-rounded perspective on things.Coming up...

  11. Big World, Big Shoes

I made a really big world, but now I realize- considering the breadth of it and the impossibility of actually traveling back and forth within a reasonable amount of time, that I will only be using a fraction of it for the main story.

It feels like a waste, but I have ideas on how to use it. It was actually from playing the game Skyrim that I got these ideas- the many ways you can provide exposition in the story without necessarily breaking the wall, so to speak or sock-puppeting your ...

  12. Excuses...

Excuses has a sort of illogical magic to them, I noticed, and they have an illogical answer as well. It's almost as if the world is made up of rules that are based more on perception.

Consider the person who uses an excuse. It doesn't matter whether the person is valid or not in bringing it up, what is happening? The person uses the excuse in order to explain why they shouldn't do something or why they have nothing. Using an excuse closes doors and shuts down roads of opportunity because ...

  13. Getting Old

I guess there's a double meaning to getting old and going gray, gray often being the color of neutrality between poles...

Just feels like as I get older, I register more all the things that I felt so certain about that I was actually wrong about and the how much mistakes I made because I had too much energy and too little patience.

In a way, getting old distances you from everything- all the hype and immediacy- and gives you a perspective like a tree must have... I once ...

To be calm while in constant motion...

To be able to think while acting...

It's ideal for most people to want to be able to do one or the other- to plan or prepare- but it's equally important to just jump in and see how long you can last. It's called practice how you play. It's also good for taking yourself out of that ethereal world of self-satisfied ideas and into the world of practical reality.

With writing, sometimes we might become so obsessed with how ...

I'm sitting down with some homemade ice tea, a bacon and egg sandwich, and my usual mess of papers.

My only job today is reviewing my map and working on the general storyboard (or, I guess, plot layout for prose writers).

  17. Philosophy of Fiction: What Makes A Successful Fiction?

I'm not sure if I'm being a little too dogged about thinking about the experience of the reader, the philosophies of my story, and things like that. I'm an amateur that imagines what a sit-down between the author of a epic fantasy mega-series like Game of Thrones and the editors must be like. I figure that from a certain standpoint, the general idea of GRRM's book is cliche. A fictional struggle of competing power factions overshadowed by a supernatural, world-threatening menace that eventually ...

Some books are straight-forward, predictable, but still enjoyable...

But I liked the books that, at the end, left you questioning reality, or redefining your perception of reality. I liked books that took you and you all-knowing self and walked you into a fun house full of mirrors that showed you in a million and one ways you don't even understand yourself all that well.

And so, for the longest, two very powerful symbols have always fascinated me. Mystery and the

Big world means long distances which means long travel times.

It also has a lot of pluses, but the travel times- considering the conventional methods of travel- are a bit of an issue. I wanted to avoid the cheesiness of inventing fictional methods of travel, but it might be a necessity. Either that, or create a huge world and only actually use 10% of it...

  20. Video Game and Fiction Engineering

It's definitely not all that complicated to write a story, but I enjoyed looking up things about video game design because how they approach the creation of a game has a lot to do with storytelling and crafting experiences for the reader.

I was impressed by how the engineering aspects of things like MMORPG's like League of Legends and such were very detailed and dynamic because of the constant issues surrounding the need for new content with the balancing of old and new content. With ...

  21. :)) Another Milestone

I've just figured out the central theme of my magic system and it works PUUURFECTLY.

It ties into past, present, and future. It is at once all powerful and deeply flawed. Ubiquitous, yet difficult to attain.

And, the best part, is that it is extremely subtle and not even well-understood by the so-called masters. Which allows for application and evolution of the concept by the stories protagonists. Also, it is not the initial magic system of the story. It is one that comes ...

  22. World of Illusion

Ever since childhood we are told a series of myths, half-truths, and illusions...

We believe, as adults, that we can simply chose when to believe and not believe in them, but the fact is that the world of illusion remains, always, seductive to our minds. Even when introduced to fact, we still hang on to the echoes of illusion. Illusion makes the world...and ourselves...just the way we want it. Or it allows us to excuse ourselves or the world for being otherwise.

    Technically, ...

  24. Plot Holes

    Plot Holes... They exist.

    Can they be avoided? Maybe.

I'm guessing it's fair to say that it's proportional to the length and/ or complexity of the work. The longer and more complex the plot, the more opportunity for the author to have miscalculated. And this wasn't such a problem back in the day where an individual reader could only network with a certain amount of people, but today, that one eagle-eyed reader can spot your hole and telegraph it to the world.
