  2. My Brother Jack

My brother Jack died today, although it wasn't unexpected - he was 91. A WW11 vet, me married his wife (she was the one who called me) in 1951 or 52. In any case they had been married at least 75 years. God. 75 years. It really hits you when it's close like a brother. Worked for the post office over 40 years.

He never talked about his experiences, came home with a purple heart and all of his limbs. He did tell me he fought under Patton, and showed me a few souvenirs of the war. ...

  4. A little lily

A friend gave me a slip from her calla lily some time ago, it is quite unusual, small with a variegated leaf. This year it flowered, there are six flowers to date. They are small and slim for a calla, with a very delicate pale yellow spathe; that’s the bit that wraps around like a cloak and looks like a petal, but really it is an altered bract. Look down inside and you see the spadix, the little phallus of sexual organs, which is also yellow. Around the base of the spadix though the spathe is deep, ...

Looking at my phone pics I came across one I took of an oap with a mild punk look going on..the reason I took the pic was because a while back my brother was talking to him in a pub an a while later I seen him in the city an took a pic of him an sent it to my brother with the message..the old punk you were talking to ages ago..so today I deleted the image and today waiting for a train who comes down the station steps..yep..him...another one today while browsing in a second hand bookshop a woman ...

  6. I Think I Want To Travel

What a robbery. That we know of this huge, huge planet and all the things in existence and yet...how much will we actually see of it? Not from the internet. Not through hearsay. With our own eyes. The world seems smaller because we think we know it, but do we? Do we even understand it, really, are do we just lump broad parts of it into generalizations?

I've been reading so much about the world trying to make my own world, that I'm starting to feel a little boxed in- as if there's so ...

  7. Feel the rhythm

So lately I haven't really had time to focus on the things that I actually love (such as music) and I felt like maybe this would be a good opportunity to ramble for a while about the music that I personally love.

From my line of sight, not a lot of people are interested in other peoples' taste in music.

Some people really fucking hate the music I listen to.

    It's reciprocal.

I could rant for hours about the music I dislike wholeheartedly, but ...

  8. Important Thing Learned From "Logan"...and "Star Wars"

Recently...the YouTube Channel "The Film Theorists" came out with a video titled "The Star Wars/Valerian Conspiracy".

    https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U_ZgPuPY7OQ

In it, they take a step-by-step approach to showing you how Star Wars borrowed a lot of content from another sci-fi series called "Valerian". Before the present day marketing for the movie I had never heard of it, but after watching this the similarities look really clear.

  9. Creators and consumers

Radio four was asking people to phone in and tell them which sort of person they were; the sort who spent their money on things, or the sort who spent it on experiences. This is a question for the consumers of our age. No-one was phoning in saying, ‘Actually I spend every penny on the bare essentials of life and I am still falling behind.’ probably because they can’t spare the time from their below minimum wage, zero hours, sub-contract, job. Too busy cleaning a hospital and they can’t afford the ...

    Chapter 1
    Fire

Fire, yeah, I feel like that accurately describes what I'm feeling throughout my whole body. This isn't the first time I've felt like this, at least that time I was actually covered in fire. Let's take a step back, because I feel like I am getting a little ahead of myself, so let's go back five years before I ever felt such a feeling.

    5 YEARS EARLIER

  11. Dream World

This is my first time, I've rewritten this story many times and this time I decided to share it with everyone. After I write a chapter, I will publish it here. Not sure if I'm any good, just hope you enjoy it. I will try to submit a chapter every two weeks and if it's as big as the first time I wrote it, I'll be posting for quite a few years.
  12. 'Tis The Season.

It is not the season to be jolly. That's from late November to New Years. You can tell it's over when you're hung over and drowning in debt.
So, until the third week of November, no "jolly". Just don't.

Well, that's just stupid, right? Why do we have ANY holiday seasons?

We're just in the middle of "patriotic season". Dust off your Old Glory and fire up a grill, just like Abe and George did. And don't forget the beer! Nothing says love-of-country ...

  13. Homeless woman talking on the train...

My brother has moved in with his mother in law and I've moved into the flat above the family business...my mother has gone to her place in Milan were I studied at the art school...you think they would have more than three cars on the train with the open golf on..getting home at six is exhausting and being homeless while we all rent our places out just adds to the stress of it all.....

  14. Newness

Trying to be deliberately new is hard...

A lot of thought and brain-storming and going back and keeping track of things. I had begun with a series of rethinks that eventually became a complete re-do that eventually led me to completely rethinking the tone of the world, itself. I realized that my story follows the same Eurocentric customs in that while the world- the stage- may be different- the people in it still act the same and believe the same things. The values line up with our ...

  15. Birds and cats

I have been cutting back a very overgrown hedge overcome by brambles on one side, quite hard work, but I have made a considerable impression. In the thicker part of the hedge I keep finding bird’s nests, abandoned this time of year I hasten to add. Most of them are blackbird nests, one a wren, and a few I can not identify. Among these last is a small, round, open nest made almost completely of fine plastic fibres, some sort of packing by the look of it, now, there is an adaptable bird.

  16. Long time no see

Hey amigos, been a while, eh?

Yeah...I know. I've been trying to figure out what's happening next. But first, a quick recap.

I returned stateside on the 6th of july. I've got a bunch of photos from my trip.

Heidelberg was my favorite part of the trip. I used to live there and it's the closest place I've got to a hometown. It was a nice relaxing breath of fresh air compared to how stressful London and Paris were. I could speak the language, blend in, and ...

  17. Self-doubt

    It's all my own.

I can't let myself be anxious. I can't worry. There's only the now. Nobody knows what tomorrow will bring. And we can't go back and change the past. It's just there to tell us where we've been. To give us continuity. To learn from.

But you can't force yourself to stop being worried or anxious. You'll only worry that you're worried, and then worry about the fact that you're worried you're worrying. I guess I'll contradict myself right away; you have to let ...

  18. Like a thief in the night...

Only it isn't night-time. It's Sunday morning and at around six-thirty my wife, 'er indoors, she who shall be obeyed, Lady and Mistress of all that she surveys and it isn't much, has finished her ablutions and is sat watching the tv. Cramming as much of whatever rubbish gets aired at this time of day into her soap-filled head before it's time for her to leave. I, sitting quietly, out of sight and out of mind, so far as one can be, out of sight and mind, sharing a home with one's other half, living ...

  19. A View of Lovecraft

Lovecraft. I was fascinated for a while, but then, as usual, you get too close to your heroes and you realize...somethings funky. Great guy, don't get me wrong, but...hmmm...where do I begin?

Okay, so revisiting for a brief moment, but when I said Lovecraft was outdated, I was wrong. More to the point, Lovecraft is imitated, but not outdated. As I said before, philosophical themes are often brought up in media, but not explored for meaning, just superficial flavoring of a sort. This ...

  20. Ugh...Inspired? Tired? Both?

In Elder Scrolls Oblivion, there was a Redguard character that was hit with a fatigue spell that seemed to make him constantly exhausted... That's what I have been feeling of late. Sometimes it's even hard to get out of bed and as far as writing, the only thing I've been able to do is put down more notes on things rather than writing things out. I have not even touched the actual review of all the notes I have written on the matter. It makes me want to wail...

    From this standpoint, ...

  21. From the Simple, Complex

I guess this is a bit elementary, but...

You ever wonder why it is that you take three things like protons, neutrons, and electrons- each one of it's kind identical to the other- and based on the number of them and the structuring of them you get the massive variety of (theoretically) everything in existence living and non-living.

But the strange thing is that these three...materials...are not the most basic things in existence. Below them you have a more complex array ...

  22. A Political Disagreement

So I've been very outspoken before about how I think it's ridiculous you can't maintain a relationship with somebody in spite of a political disagreement. Specifically, it was about Brexit.

And I still think it's ridiculous-- at least, as it pertains to Brexit. But not so much in terms of what I'm about to tell you.

Lately I've seemingly become at greater and greater odds with an old Skype friend of mine who comes from Germany. He said something so absurd that I must've ...

  23. My Bro's A Writer :)

So...I was over my fathers house yesterday. My little brother was there. I'd always known him to be an artist- he's always drawing something- but I saw him writing. I stopped in my tracks and asked him what as he doing. He told me he was writing the final draft of a story he'd come up with.

My eyes popped 👀. I was like 'when did you start writing'. He told me he'd been doing it for a while- a little at first, but he does it a little more often. He's been posting his stories ...

  24. The Greatest Demons Are Within

    Small note...

Along the way of reformation I came along one of those things that are well-known, but never really applied. It's like the simplest advice people give you that you ignore right up to the moment you realize you should have paid attention...for years. Decades...

To me, in much fiction, many philosophical themes are brought up but never actually worked on or resolved- some even going completely counter to the philosophies they bring up. Many, actually. The infamous ...

    I'm tired of this shit.

    Nothing ever fucking works.
